I chose accessibility at
first because I was interested in controlling what happens outside the
classroom—the bullying online. I was interested in telling them what not to do
when they are home. Now when I look at what I have researched and written I do
see some differences and changes in my perspective on accessibility. For
example I no longer want to control what happens online after or before school,
I want to help my students understand the right thing to do online. I do not
need to control what happens outside of school if I can provide them with Tips
and Tricks to prevent or stop cyber bullying. My students will use technology responsibly in the classroom
so that it comes easily at home. I will also highly encourage victims to come
talk to me, even if it is scary or overwhelming. They should know I could help
them with their online and in person bullying problems. I am not going to
control; I am going to protect.

As
a teacher I will be dealing with effective ways to use the technology in the
classroom. Sometimes though I may notice that some students aren’t as excited
or performing as well as they used to. I don’t want my students to feel
insecure or scared to be online because they are the generation of technology
and connectivity amongst their peers. I hope to motivate my students to do more
positive than negative online and to always think about what their comment
could mean from a different perspective. They will be told about the effects of
bullying and cyber bullying and how both are punishable. I may decide to tell
them about the deaths caused by cyber bullying, but only if they are old enough
to understand. My students can come to myself or my other colleagues to get
help. I now know that 1 in 5 students ages 12-18 are cyber bullied or
participate in it. This statistic has stuck with me because that is 20% of
teenagers that are harassed online and I want to be a part of their positive
side of life. As a teacher I hope to share my knowledge with my students so
bullies can’t take over their lives.
